The National Curriculum

The National Curriculum is more than just a structure shaping the way we teach and learn; it has a real impact on pupils’ lives far beyond the day they take their last walk out of the school gates.

The DfE has reshaped the curriculum to a programme it feels better enables the next generation to compete effectively with their international peers. The framework for key stages 1 and 2 includes:

  1. Contextual information about both the overall school curriculum and the statutory national curriculum, including the statutory basis of  the latter.
  2. Aims for the statutory national curriculum.
  3. Statements on inclusion, and on the development of pupils’ competence innumeracy and maths, language and literacy across the curriculum.
  4. Programmes of study for all the national curriculum subjects
