Parent Teacher and Friends Association (PTFA)


About the PTFA

All funds raised by the PTFA are used to provide a great school experience for the children and the extras that government funding can’t stretch to.  Funds raised at the Advent Fayre 2017 and other events during 2018 will go towards various resources for the children.

Each year the PTFA contributes £5,500 towards the school’s Creative Curriculum and Sports Enrichment programmes. These programmes enable the children to participate in a wide range of sporting activities and arts and creative workshops and also means our children get many school trips, travelling to outside venues during school time in the two St John’s mini buses bought by the PTFA a few years ago. The school swimming pool is another asset made possible through PTFA fundraising and most recently we contributed a significant amount of money to the new multi-use games area (MUGA).

This year as well as funding new library books and computers for the classrooms, we will continue to raise money for the playground area to ensure that playtimes are fun for children now and in the years to come.

Match Funding

If you work for an organisation that has a match funding policy, any money you raise could be matched by your employer.  Companies may match the fundraising total for an event, or for the stall that their employee is working on. Usually, the employee will need to supply them with a letter from the PTFA detailing the date and nature of the event, together with the total raised.

We understand that the high street banks, building societies, supermarkets and large corporations are likely to do match funding, but these schemes are not exclusive to the major corporate giants. If you work for an independent company, they may be interested in charitable giving through match funding too.

We would be grateful if you could enquire if your employer has a match funding scheme, or if they are willing to match fund any of our events. If you can’t help out this time, but you know the company you work for has a match funding policy, please let us know anyway.

This could be a really great source of income for the PTFA and enable us to raise money to help the school continue to provide the extra activities that government funding doesn’t stretch to. If you are able to help us this way, please let us know at ptfastjohnsn11@yahoo.com and we can follow up with you to discuss your companies’ requirements.

A massive well done and congratulations to parents Ben and Kim Pallas who completed the Tough Mudder course on 29th April 2017.

They have raised a fantastic amount of money for the school through sponsors – over £1700!  And this total should hopefully increase with some Match Funding.

Summer Fete 2017

The summer fete on Saturday 24th June, our biggest fundraiser of the year, was a brilliant success. It was very well attended and we had a great afternoon of fun. Thanks to all of you who came along and supported the event. The total amount raised was £4,752, which is a fantastic amount (£3,595 raised in 2016).

Highlights included the St John’s Hair Salon and Nail Bar, Pony Rides on Freddie and Dolly, a great singing performance by the Year 4 children, the tasty BBQ, Pimm’s stall and Prosecco bar. We were also well supported by local businesses who generously donated raffle prizes to the school.

Special thanks to all the volunteers who gave up their time to help the PTFA set up and run the fete – we couldn’t have done it without you!

Next year’s Summer Fete will be on Saturday 23rd June. Please save the date.

Easter Cake Sale

Thanks to those of you who donated cakes for the sale on Friday 31st March.

It was a sell out and we made over £150!

Family Bingo

Thanks to those of you who joined us for a fun afternoon of bingo on Friday 3rd March.

Lots of prizes were on offer and Mr Newman did a great job of calling the numbers.

It was a popular event so hopefully we’ll be able to run another bingo session same time next the year.

The Advent Fayre 2016

The Advent Fayre on Saturday 3rd December, surpassed all our expectations and was our biggest fundraiser of 2016. Thanks to all of you who joined us for a lovely Christmassy afternoon – we raised a massive £4850. Thanks to Anscombe and Ringland Estate Agents for sponsorship and also to all the other restaurants and local businesses who generously donated some great raffle prizes to the school.  Special thanks to all the volunteers who gave up their time to help the PTFA set up and run the Fayre – it wouldn’t happen without you!

Who are the PTFA?

The PTFA plays an important role in fundraising for the school but also for promoting a strong feeling of community within the school. The committee are a friendly bunch with a great team spirit – joining us is a really good way to get to know other of mums, dads and teachers. Some of us have joined very recently but some of us have nearly reached the end of our time at St John’s so we are in need of and would really welcome some new active members.

Our two main fundraising events each year are the Advent Fayre in December and the Summer Fete in June.

You can support these events by attending with your family but it’s also important we have plenty of helpers on the day.

Even just an hour on a stall will make a real difference, or even half an hour helping to set up or clear up at the end of the day.

How can parents help?

If you want to get involved with the PTFA, have a great fundraising idea, or would like to help at one of our events please speak to anyone on the committee or send an email to ptfastjohnsn11@yahoo.com.  We would be delighted to hear from you! 

If you feel unable to join the committee then we hope you’ll consider volunteering occasionally at one of the many events we run. We organise the annual Advent Fayre and Summer Fete and also many other events such as cake sales, uniform sales, coffee mornings, school discos, bingo afternoons, and quiz nights – and we always need helpers!

Ways you can help:

  • make a cake for the cake stall
  • donate toys and books your children have outgrown
  • contact a company you have a relationship with to donate a prize or voucher for the raffle (or make a suggestion to the PTFA and we will contact them)
  • offer a service parents can bid on in the auction
  • donate bottles or sweets for the tombola stalls on donation days
  • offer to display an estate agent board promoting the event
  • sell raffle tickets to family and friends (extras available from the office).
