Selina Wood

PCC Governor

I feel honoured to take on the role of PCC Governor at St John’s school for a second time, having previously served from 2017–2022.

I am a member of the congregation at St John’s Church, and I sing in the choir. I have strong links with the local church and community, as I was brought up in Friern Barnet. I follow in the footsteps of my mother who was also a St John’s school governor (and my father a St John’s church warden).

I’ve worked as a book editor and writer in the publishing industry for nearly thirty years. Specialising in children’s illustrated titles, I’ve been a permanent employee or editorial freelancer for many of the London-based global book publishers.

I greatly enjoy the part of my work that involves thinking of ways to make facts and stories inspiring and entertaining for children so that they can grow ever more interested in the world around them. As a result, I feel quite passionate about children’s development and education, which is why I find the role of school governor greatly rewarding. Aware of the privilege and challenge of governing, I strive to support the school as best I can so that it can create a happy, caring environment and help all pupils to fulfil their potential.
