Susie Hickman

PCC Governor

Elected 2021
I believe the right to an education that nurtures you academically, pastorally, socially and spiritually is of fundamental importance, and I feel privileged to be part of the governing body of St Johns, supporting the staff to provide such an education to the young people of Friern Barnet.

I am proud to say our 2 daughters attended St Johns Primary school and thrived, our eldest now at Sheffield university and our youngest studying for her A levels. I have been a member of the congregation at St Johns Church for 20 years and a serving PCC member on and off for 15 of those years.

Professionally, I have been a Secondary School Science teacher for 25 years, working in a large 11-18 school in East London. I have been a Year leader, Safeguard lead, Student teacher mentor, curriculum leader, policy writer and behaviour specialist and am currently the Head of Biology and School Transition Leader- where I work with Year 6 teams across the borough preparing and supporting their transition into the secondary sector. I am sure the wide-reaching educational skills and experience I have, will be a support to me and St Johns as I begin my role as a Governor.

St Johns Church is an important part of my life and the relationship between the church and St Johns primary school is an important and special one, where both benefit in equal measure from the bond. I hope in my role as Governor I can continue to support the ethos of St Johns school, which has always advocated Kindness, respect, and inclusivity. The school mission statement of ‘Faith, Excellence and Enjoyment’ is certainly one to be proud of.
